Objectives

Importance for Geoparks

Innovative Learning Opportunities: Develop and implement innovative learning opportunities in geosciences for students, utilizing the unique environments and resources of UNESCO Global Geoparks.

GEOSCHOOL Network: Create a GEOSCHOOL network that fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing among schools and geoscientific institutions across Europe.

Teacher and Student Training: Train teachers and students in the fundamental principles of geosciences and their application to understanding and addressing climate change.

Environmental Awareness: Foster environmental awareness and green skills among students to prepare them for the challenges of a changing climate.

Educational Materials: Produce a comprehensive set of educational materials, including lesson plans, activities, and multimedia resources, to support geosciences education in schools.

EU Climate Action: Support the EU’s goals for education and climate action by integrating sustainable practices and awareness into school curriculums.
The GEOSCHOOLS project plays a pivotal role in advancing climate change education by leveraging the unique environments and educational potential of geoparks.

By integrating geosciences into school curriculums, the project aims to foster a deep understanding of the Earth's processes and the impact of human activities on our planet. Geoparks, with their rich geological heritage and diverse ecosystems, provide an ideal setting for hands-on learning and observation of climate change effects.

Through this project, students and teachers will gain valuable insights into the importance of geodiversity, geoheritage, and sustainable practices. The collaboration with UNESCO Global Geoparks ensures that the educational materials and activities are grounded in real-world examples and cutting-edge scientific research.

By educating the next generation about geosciences and climate change, the GEOSCHOOLS project aims to inspire informed and proactive citizens who are equipped to address the environmental challenges of the future.
